Sorry David, was bored and saw you had a specifically Linux set of entries and stopped to comment on this tool.
As far as Colinux, I have primarily gripes at the moment. The Debian 1GB kernel that is currently being delivered with it (there are other packages, but Debian is the better looking one) hangs and crashes a lot. I did get apache for linux, running on Debian, running in the shell, but as soon as the shell hangs, apache of course hangs with it. I also thought I'd mention a few of the gems I've found, as well as some of the sour apples. go-mono.com and specifically the mono project is quite useful. An Asp.Net development environment and a very good C# compiler for Linux. They have Debian and Redhat supported packages. redcarpet from ximian has a lot of advantages as well, especially if you're running fedora or redhat 9 and need to rapidly update a whole lot of development packages. It depends heavily on Ximian channels, but the solution to this is to point it at your favorite RPM repository, through it's file browser, and let it resolve dependencies and update orders. It is the best tool for installing mono, I've found. I'm a fan of PHPNuke, especially since it supports so many postNuke plugins and modules. Dotproject is a pretty cool resource. I'm finishing a CVS access module for our internal purposes. It's just a decent free project management tool, leaps and bounds ahead of Mr project. I'm trying to get involved with a group that's building the phpMyEdit tool. It's got lots of problems, but if you tool around and make your own front end to the tool, you can cut out a lot of time on building some pretty useful user forms. The style support is also cludgy. DBForms is kind of a lemon with a lot of cludgy crashes here and there. I know you work on MySQL at work(you told me as much), and my pick forremote admin isphpadmin, mainly for phpmyadmin's INNODB support and the ease with which I can pull down a lot of schema and clone a table through a graphical interface. It's a good tool for remote administration, especially if you're co-locating a lot of your servers, like we are. Anyway the best for last: http://www.ez.no/ much better than phpNuke, but not as many modules. Very interesting. |
