7 dogs arrived at our home last night after riding 9 hours up from Georgia. Another NC member left at 3am to make the trip there and back in one day. The dogs were dirty and scared, but good tempered and quiet. They all got baths, teeth scraping, ear cleanings, nail tripms, and flea preventive. By the time it was all said and done it was 1:30am. Four went to stay with Pam and three were picked up today by Libby's dedicated foster homes. Some pictures are on our Gallery.

Yesterday, Lily and Marshall competed in their first agility trial in Youngsville, NC. They each competed in three events: Jumpers, Standard (all obstacles), and Tunnelers. You can look at pictures or for the full effect you can watch them in action.
The results were far better than we'd hoped. Lily and Marshall each qualified in the Tunnelers event and Lily qualified in the Jumpers event. They finished all the courses and both the pups and Libby had oodles of fun. The other participants kept asking Libby if she was addicted yet. Something tells me this isn't the last time they'll compete.
Congratulations to Libby, Lily, and Marshall.

Last night Lily passed here CGC test without a hitch. Marshall completed his in September. Lily's looking forward to her future course selection--whether she wants to do agility or become a therapy dog we don't yet know!

We never made it to the fireworks tonight. One of our fellow rescuers had an incident between her pointer mix and one of her doxie fosters--Chloe. As a result, Libby spent most of the afternoon getting her wounds cared for at one vet, then the emergency vet. She ended up getting 20 staples and 4 drains installed. Unfortunately, this is far from the first time this mix has attacked another small dog. He's going to have to be separated for the forseeable future. I went to north-raleigh to pickup a dog in transit from New Jersey to Greensboro (clearly the lesser of the two tasks). We then went together to pick up Chloe from her surgery. We hope Chloe has a quick recovery.
This evening Libby and I took a walk to fit in some celebration and watched the fireworks set off by our neighbors.

We'll be holding a DRNA adoptathon today from 12-3pm at the Brier Creek Petsmart. We will be showing off Precious, Darby, Overton, Dash, and Frankie.

We spent most of yesterday at the Kernersville adoptathon. We had lots of people interested in Beanie than anyone else, and not too many "qualified" adopters.
We then went to the Dachshund Meetup and had a wonderful chat with some other dog parents at the dog park.
Finally, the people who adopted Teddy and Andy came down to pick up Peanut!
All the photos can be seen here, but there was a large smudge on the camera and lots of the pictures have a blurry spot right down the middle

We drove up to Manassas, VA this weekend for the Mid-atlantic Dachshund Picnic. An event similar in nature to the North Carolina Wiener Roast including many of the same people and events, but it allows Dachshund fanatics to celebrate more than just once per year! Lily participated in several events, but the competition was stiffer and the judging was questionable. She came in second in the bobbing for wieners contest, though we feel that the judges extra "treats" between rounds were meant to jeapordize her stamina by filling up her stomach with hot dogs. She also didn't make it out of her first heat and came in second place. Lily, Cody, and Marshall also greatly enjoyed the event and spent the day lounging in their x-pen. We greatly enjoyed seeing many of our former fosters and adopters including Leah, Teddy & Andy, Samantha, Willie, and Hannah.
On Sunday we drove back to Carborro just in time for the Dachshund Day at Weaver Street, where a local fanatic holds a gathering for all local dachshund friends!

Yesterday we threw a small party for Lily to celebrate the two year anniversary of her adoption! Lily got a number of very generous presents and fun was had by all.

Lily had her operation yesterday, and everything went well! The tooth was removed and she recovered last night at home. She was pretty disoriented from the pain medicine and the anesthesia when we brought her home last night, and even this morning she was a bit under the weather. However, this evening she's bouncing around and back to her old self!
Thanks to everyone for their support, and to grandma and grandpa Keenan for their wonderful card!

Today is Lily's Second Adoption Day! The picture on the left is from last year, so we'll post pictures of this year a bit later! Libby is baking Lillian some cookies, and she's having a party next weekend for everyone to celebrate.

Well, we were slated to get four (4) dogs from the puppymill that brought us Andy and Cody, but the woman (who is likely found at http://www.calabel.net) has apparently decided to give them away to people in the community. In any case, we aren't getting these 4 dogs this weekend. Instead, we're still getting another who's being surrendered by his owner of 13 years, and there's a 10 year old coming from somewhere between here and Greenville.
Finally, Libby got a call today about a dog with a rear leg problem at the Durham shelter. She went and picked him up, took him to the vet, and learned that he had a dislocated hip. They are going to try and relocate it tomorrow, but in the event that too much time has elapsed they'll be doing a procedure where they remove the ball of the "ball and socket" joint which forms the hip. Supposedly he'll recover quickly and nearly unscathed. I wouldn't welcome such an operation on myself as it soulds really uncomfortable. However, I suppose this is one of the advantages of being a quadruped.

This evening, Mercedes went to her new home in Chapel Hill! After having her for four months, and losing her sister, we definately have a special place in our hearts for Mercedes. She was the most mellow Dachshund we've ever met, and she's welcome back in our home any time!

On Sunday, two ladies we'd previously met on a home check called us to let us know a relative had found two young Dachshunds. They ended up dropping them off at our house and we found they were covered in ticks (and also look like mixes). We took them to the Mebane vet yesterday (they are a wonderful vet and any pet is lucky to be cared for by their generous and caring staff). We then found that they also have serious heart murmurs and are expected to live 2 years or so. Neither were spayed/neutered and the male hasn't a thought in his head other than pursuing the female. It's though that the two are litter mates (brother & sister) and also that they've probably already mated (gross, I know). Surgery is risky for the pups in their condition, but we cannot adopt them out unaltered, so they will be going in for surgery in a few weeks. Emma and Andy currently reside in our garage until all the ticks have died and fallen off, at which point they'll come live inside with us!
Teddy, mentioned Saturday, is now being fostered in Durham, so we're down to four.
Update: Landscaping pictures are up.

Recently, Libby's connected with a number of people who are fostering dogs for DRNA in our area. In general, this means that we don't have to keep as many dogs at our house! This week, two of the dogs fostered by other local voulenteers were adopted--Baxter and Oscar. Tomorrow, Jazz gets picked up by his family whose driven down from Illinois!
As for us, Libby's spent the day dealing with Teddy our newest foster who's a 25 pound male red long-hair. She picked him up this morning in Cary (he came all the way from South Carolina), took him to the vet to get shots and found that he is heartworm positive, has fleas, and conjunctivitis (eye problems). Finally, a woman we'd met on a transport came over to offer her grooming expertise and he's now looking beautiful (pictures to come). As for the heartworms, it means he'll be in foster care for at least 6 weeks for the treatment and a neuter. Poor guy.

Today we heard from Marci's new mom who informed us that less than 24 hours after meeting up with Marci, she'd decided that their life together wouldn't work out. Now, Marci is a 9-month old wild-boar puppy. She's 9 pounds, female, and completely house trained. She's an angel of a puppy. The reason for her return was that she was "barking at the bird" and the lady who clips the birds wings said "Marci would never be trustworthy with birds". Also, the woman's other dog was stressed by the new arrival. However, the dog had been sick before Marci arrived. In any case, Marci is back up for adoption!
We also heard from Heidi's new mom who said she's doing quite well. She's hopping around despite her disabled left front and rear leg. She's gotten her the Wellness dog food we recommend, and asked about the vitamins Libby sent with her.
We just heard an email from Petee's family, which was quite odd, but generally positive. The email was most concerned about whether or not we thought Petee would choose his new mom as his new best friend, or not. How we're supposed to surmise whether or not Petee will like someone we've never met, not that if we'd met her we could understand his thought process, is beyond me.
Finally, Lillian wanted to show off her winnings from the festivities on Saturday.
